Bessatsu Shonen Magazine 06-2014
Previously on: Attack on Titan 56: Eren writes what he heard during Ymir’s conversation with Bertholdt and Reiner. He gives it to Hanji and she hurries to Commander Erwin. Meanwhile, Historia was to be the new queen after being saved by Survey Corps from the clutches of the First Military Guard. Unfortunately, the plan fails and Mr. Reebs gets his throat slit.

Spoiler Alert! If you are gonna read this post, please read the actual manga first!

Warning! This chapter has gore, blood and a massive FACE-OFF.

Summary: Hanji arrives at Commander Erwin’s location and they talk about how humans get to turn into titans based on Eren’s account. She concludes that a human-turned titan can achieve the power to transform into a human and harness the power to transform at will by eating one who has that power. She thinks that Reiner throwing titans at Eren is the last resort to gain Eren’s cry power. All her assumptions by far led to Eren being only a vessel for the power to manipulate titans and thus, the reason why Historia’s father planning to consume Eren becomes obvious. Before they could further converse, the Central Military Guard comes to arrest the Survey Corps for killing the head of the Reebs Corporation and other civilians. Erwin assigns Hanji to succeed as the new Commander of the Survey Corps and warns her of Commander Pixis and his backing out of the deal.

Hanji, we know what you mean. You don't need to repeat yourself.
Once outside, he is welcomed with the corpse of Mr. Reebs and his mourners; his wife and the people who worked under him. The guard who was sent to arrest Erwin announces the suspicions that are hanging on the Survey Corps’ head. Erwin; the smart man he is, accepts this one-sided accusation but does not ensure the guard of the Survey Corps’ surrender. Before leaving the scene and the mourners, he tells them of a bittersweet comment about Mr. Reebs’ work; telling them of his selfish desire to make money in every way was ultimately for the people who he wanted to save. He instills sympathy in the mourners’ hearts for unknown reasons. He gets sent away in the assumption that he will never be seen again.

This is Hanji speaking BTW.
In hiding, Mr. Reebs’ son Flegel, is captured by Hanji. She asks about the murders and he states his unofficial testimony: A tall man wearing a black coat, along with the First Military Police murdered his father and took Eren and Historia away. Hanji suggests that Flegel tell the townspeople of the truth, though both know that the government will be coming after him and silence him. She argues that it is better to die fighting than live like a rat in his remaining years and that the Survey Corps was never on the winning side anyway.
2 days have passed and the Levi’s group; Trap Armin, Yandere Pantsu/Sexy Abs Mikasa, Potato Girl Sasha, Horseface Jean and Balding Connie are in disguise and hiding from the public eye. News is spreading around that they have become criminals due to the recent murder of their sole ally. Jean slaps reality in everyone’s face like no one knows of it when Armin justifies his and Mikasa’s decision to follow Heichou. Now, they will inevitably fight against humans and might kill someone in the process.

Seriously, his last magic trick was the "cutting the assistant" one.
Meanwhile, Captain Levi stalks a coffin that is presumably where Eren is being held. He tells his subordinate about a murderer who has kill more than a hundred people and his name is Kenny the Ripper. He also tells her about him living with this murderer but just when all goes well, an assassination attempt is carried out by the subject of Levi and his subordinates’ conversation; Kenny the Ripper. Kenny’s men exterminated most of Levi’s team. The first attack resulted in faces being erased by a short range headshot. It is now a showdown between the master and the student.

You'll have to stay a virgin for a while longer.
Likes: Captain Levi’s master; Kenny the Ripper. I want to know more about this guy because he’s a killer and killers really amaze me. Also, the connection of Levi to this man is kind of interesting too because he’s the original badass that showed this pint-size yaoi idol the ropes.

Technically, you can call it a tiny penis.
Also related to Kenny, is his group the human suppression squad which specializes in assassination; that is, killing humans and not titans. They are equipped with grappling hooks made for climbing in an urban setting. Armed with shotgun-like firearms and with high battle sense, they prove to be a formidable opponent for the young members of the Survey Corps.

Knowing Hanji, this will not end well.
Another thing I liked about this chapter is the induction of Hanji as the new Commander. Erwin new that this is the last time he’ll be talking to anyone who is a member of the Survey Corps. I am officially assuming that Erwin is dead and will never be seen. The good thing is that he’s the only one that was captured and killed because the Survey Corps will not survive any more casualties in their group. The Central Military Police was obviously trying to ensnare them King of Midland style, inviting the whole group and having a blood bath (I hope you get the Berserk reference here). They were undermining the Survey Corps cleverness when they thought up of this plan to get rid of the Corps.

The good thing is that you'll be a virgin no longer.
Except that it's the wrong kind of virgin.
Erwin’s last words being cut off, was a nice dramatic effect. This might be another seed Hajime Isayama planted so we can go back to it at a later date. I wonder what his full statement was before he got taken away.

Even the genius Armin can't understand it.
Dislikes: The confusing first part of this chapter. I was read Hanji and Erwin’s conversation 3 times before I got the meaning and get what is currently happening. I’m a little slow on the uptake when it comes to the smart part of a manga. I usually just read through it once and just figure it out when all the facts are laid out.

Kenny the Salesman appears!
Jean’s outlook. Jean was ready to get eaten by titans but he isn’t ready to kill people? This chapter confirms one of the possible origins of titans and I expect that Jean was briefed over this matter beforehand. Based on that assumption, you can say that Jean has already been killing a ton of humans in the form of titan months before. I know that killing for survival is one thing that doesn’t need justification but won’t it come to that anyway? The Survey Corps will not be able to move as freely as before and more now because they have the human suppression squad on their butts. It’s either kill or be killed, Horseface Jean.

No need to thank me for the free sample!
Quirks: It’s not really related to this chapter but when I was searching the wikia page for Shingeki no Kyojin, I saw that Hanji Zoe’s gender was unclear in the manga version. Hanji is without a doubt, a female with Fujoshi tendencies. DAT FOUR EYES…

Free samples are always a good thing.
Predictions: A lot of people think that Eren’s father was eaten by Eren because there’s no way to have the ability to transform without doing such a thing right? I cannot prove it with hard evidence but I believe that Eren’s father is indeed, alive and well but in titan form. Sure, call me crazy but I will still say that Eren’s father is alive. Not eaten but alive and well.

The results are undeniably good!
Anyway, for real predictions, I’m going with Levi losing his tail, escaping but with heavy injuries. He’ll be hurrying it up to his remaining forces and tell them to hide since he knows who he’s dealing with. Meanwhile, Hanji will search for Levi’s team and see a note telling her of their location. That’s how far my mind can think so let’s hope for something different!

He's a salesman after all.
So, what did you think of this chapter? IT was kind of okay but it wasn’t as suspenseful as the previous chapter because no one close to our hearts died. Yeah, the messenger girl died but she didn’t grow on me so all I can is “Oh well. Nice meeting you.” Unlike when Mr. Reebs died by throat slitting, that was really awful. Anyway, I can kind of guarantee that there will be no more titans for a while. Thanks for reading! Ja ne!

Here's my video for this! You can just listen to it or ignore it.
