Weekly! Fuuka 5: Coming out (カミングアウト)

A new challenger comes! Err... actually, it's different from a challenger. Let's just say that another person comes to the fray, meddling with Yuu's growing feelings toward Fuuka. It's actually an interesting chapter but that's just my opinion. Let me defend this chapter!

The Case of the Mysterious Steam
Weekly Shonen Magazine 015-2014 cover coming soon

Previously on: Fuuka 4: Yuu gains 2 tickets to a movie that coincidentally, Fuuka really wants to watch. He invites her and they set a date on Sunday. The day of the meeting, they miss each other in a cliche way but with Fuuka's strange abilities; she finds Yuu. Also, Yuu gets a knee to the face just to make fun of him.

The chapter title gives a bit of a hint as to what this chapter is about. I was translating it by my Katakana/Hiragana self study (through translating manga) sheets and I was confused as to what it means. I've never heard of such a word. ka mi n gu a u to. KA-MINGU-AUTO. Coming out. WTF?! I was like whoa! This was totally what the translators wrote! Cool!

Spoiler Alert! If you are gonna read this post, please read the actual manga first!

Warning! This chapter has a few of shots of pantsu. Beware of pervs lurking in this blog.

Summary: The chapter starts of with Yuu's usual loner self, facing his phone all day, looking at his SNS account. With class ending, a certain person stands out of the class. Their homeroom teacher asks for the students who haven't joined any club.

Pool cleaning duty, the teacher was looking for people to volunteer to clean and with lady luck somehow ignoring him; Yuu and Fuuka, along with Mikasa (the person who was standing out in class.) Mikasa is seemingly close with Fuuka and this enrages Yuu, though he only projects this internally.

Kaoru!?

Fuuka then walks towards Yuu's place and tries to teach him about how to clean a pool when suddenly, she slips and fall on her behind. For a moment, Yuu saw a glimpse of her underwear. With her skirt wet and transparent, Fuuka changes her into her gym clothes.

Mikasa then tries to converse with Yuu, opening up with compliments for Fuuka. He invites Yuu to go meet somewhere outside of school with Fuuka but Yuu insistently declines. His reason being, the awkward third wheel to a wonderful two person date. The misunderstanding is to be clear by Mikasa as he tells Yuu that he doesn't prefer girls and "swings" that way.

Ayanami, Rei?

Yuu admires Mikasa's outgoing personality and his bravery to come out and not think about what society thinks about him. This makes it look like Yuu's hitting on Mikasa. He subtly told Yuu about Fuuka liking Yuu, in a vague way.

Continuing Yuu's conversation with Tama-chan, Yuu replies that he has gained two friends since moving in to Tokyo and that they are both weirdos.

Mysteries...

Likes: Yuu acquiring another friend! The more friends he has, the more trouble he gets into! Yuu is an anti-social person and he relies on Social Networking Sites too much. Mikasa just pulled him out into the sunlight just a bit to make him appreciate physical connections with people.

Mikasa, the homosexual wingman. I've had acquaintances that are gay and I can say, they are fun to be with. They know how to crack jokes, clean and dirty; they lighten up the mood with their personalities and the best of all, they are the best friends you can have! They can advice you on stuff, become your moral support and help you in your time of need. Every man, needs a gay friend. Seriously. They know stuff that guys haven't the slightest idea about. They're like the girl you think is really chill and easy to talk to, but you can get rowdy with them too. Enough about my experience with them. Mikasa is a much needed character for this series. He's what Yuu needs, a light-hearted drill sergeant. Mikasa is definitely gonna play an important part in Yuu's life.

He swings that way...

Dislikes: Yuu still hasn't learned anything about social interaction. Are you serious? He still can't leave his phone alone? I sure hope he becomes more outgoing in the coming chapters. He's just too uptight and puts a wall between him and other people with the use of his phone. He's more detached to the world when he does that so I'm hoping that Mikasa and Fuuka do something about it. Maybe destroy his phone again just so he can live for a few days without a phone?

Quirks: Awesome "I didn't see them at all" denial. He might've blushed for a moment but he spoke with a straight face after seeing Fuuka's underwear. Surprisingly, he didn't blush at all and instead just saw it as another one of those times where you accidentally see a girl's underwear. I'm proud of you, Yuu.

Just making sure...

Predictions: Mikasa, Fuuka and Yuu's day out? I really wish that they wouldn't just leave off an "invitation" to go somewhere and replace it with a different chapter. Last week's chapter was about Yuu and Fuuka seeing a movie. They ended it with Yuu and Fuuka  on the way to the theater and I was expecting a movie scene chapter for this week but no. They just said "screw it with you predictions! You were never right anyway!" and wrote this chapter.

I'm not complaining that we didn't get to see Yuu and Fuuka possibly being all lovey-dovey, or Fuuka crying about the feels she has after seeing the movie. Still, I think this is a good chapter because they introduce us to a new character and a unique one at that. Tell me your thoughts on this chapter? Did you like it like I did? Was it worth reading? How is the series so far? Comment your answers down below! Thanks! Mata ashita!
