Series Review: Kono S o, Mi yo! Look at this S (このSを、見よ [Kono S o, miyo])

What if you had a curse/blessing (depending on how you see it) that make the opposite sex crave for you? To men, a tempting offer but to women, a curse. This story tells the situation of an adult male having a birthmark on his bum that has the power to make women crave for him in a sexual way. The catch? The women must still have their period or else, it won't work. How does it get "turned off"? The woman just needs to have sex with the guy to avoid further sexual frustrations and wet panties. Still with me? Good! Let's review this!

The mangaka; Kitazaki Taku, has been published with multiple titles since the late 80s. I don't know much about the guy but from what I can see (which is barely scratching the surface), he's drawn a lot of ecchi stuff. I don't have anything special to say since I haven't read anything from him except for this title. I will read the stories "prequel" because this story is unique. I'll get to it. Weekly! Fuuka 11: In a Loud Voice (大きな声で![Ōkina koe de!])

Yuu, Fuuka and Mikasa arrive peaceful at Shōnan and were immediately put to work by the Southwind's manager. Yuu gets scolded by the manager for not speaking loud enough to say the order. Fuuka saves the day by saying that she wants to hear more of his voice. He grows a pair and yells with all his heart but that effort ended poorly.

Previously on: Fuuka 10: Yuu reminisces about his childhood and his promise with Tama-chan. Fuuka decides that she wants to form a band with Yuu and Mikasa but learns that a large sum of money is needed to buy instruments. Their homeroom teacher suggests that they work for her friend in Shōnan which is incidentally, where Tama-chan is shooting her next music video!

MEGA Weekly! Fuuka 6-10: Wings; Promise!; Stage!; Unrequited Love; Band!

Fuuka Akitsuki is searching for something fun to do, a hobby or a club to join. She could not find anything, however, Haruna Yuu, suggested that she should take up music; either pick up an instrument or become a singer. She dreams, she acts upon that dream.

Fuuka invites Yuu to see a concert but Tama-chan (Koyuki) invites him first. With no choice, he goes with Fuuka and to his surprise, they went to see Tama-chan's concert. The three of them met eye-to-eye for the first time and it has now become a race to win Yuu's heart. The concert left Fuuka wanting the stage and so she decides to build a band. This leads to them to possibly meet personally as the four of them (Mikasa included) work at the beach in Shōnan.

Previously on: Fuuka 5: Yuu perceives this good looking guy as a rival for Fuuka when he finds out that he swings the other way. He gains another friend, Mikasa.

Now-Reading 10: Sweet-Delinquent Girlfriend(ヤンデレ彼女[Yandere Kanojo])

This is what a shounen romance should feel like. A heart-warming story between a yankee; a delinquent, and an ordinary guy who fell in love after their first encounter with each other. It’s cheesy at times but it feels more shoujo than any shoujo I’ve read so far. It’s not filled with drama but is filled with happiness.

When a gag manga gives you something bigger than gags and comedy, you know that you’re reading a jewel of a story. I will apologize for fangirling about this series because I’m falling in love head over heels with this series because it’s so light and lovely, it feels like I’ve found the one I want to be with. She doesn’t look outstanding, she might swear a bit here and there but overall she’s just a really nice girl. I met her when I was browsing a certain manga hosting site, looking for a gag manga and she looked like a fun manga to read. She describes herself modestly but she’s so amazing and unique, she should be licensed. As of now, I’m still enjoying her company but we’re going to go through a long distance relationship soon. I hate it but I have to endure.

The mangaka’s pen name is Shinobi which translates to ninja. Her works are mostly 4 koma gag manga and all share the same kind of art style. She is prolific in that she works on two versions of Yandere Kanojo; one for the magazine and one for online publication. Her other works are “Nekura Musume to Internet (Miss Depressing and the Internet)” and “Musuko no Yome (My Son’s Wife).”

Guest Review: Nagisa-chan on Peach Girl

Telling more about Nagisa before we head on over to the review, she's the typical shoujo loving girl. She loves Sailor Moon and this series, Peach Girl. She has a modest sized collection of otaku-related stuff Nagisa hates yaoi intensely but surprisingly, she can stomach every dirty joke I throw at her! She's the girl friend that every otaku needs (do not fall for her, even if you are desperate).

One-Shot!: 30-sai, Shojo OL (30歳 処女 OL) by Ruruko

Since I'm doing a lot of Weekly! and Monthly! posts, I thought that it's time to give one-shots a place here. I've read two one-shots this year and a ton more titles out there to choose from to review. I'll do these one-shots like my normal volume reviews. Expect more of these to be posted, Weekly! and Monthly! posts will still be on time (here's to hoping I do finish them on time!) Okay, more on the story!






Turnoffs, all of us have them. Celebrities, Politicians, Blue-collar job workers, Students, everyone has a turnoff. What if, this turnoff was the sole reason for you not having a long lasting relationship? Well, that is the story of our 30 year old main character; Hinako. Her turnoff? She's a neat-freak with a highly damaging reflex movements whenever she gets touched the wrong way. Enough about turnoffs, let's get started with the story!

Weekly! Fuuka 5: Coming out (カミングアウト)

A new challenger comes! Err... actually, it's different from a challenger. Let's just say that another person comes to the fray, meddling with Yuu's growing feelings toward Fuuka. It's actually an interesting chapter but that's just my opinion. Let me defend this chapter!

Previously on: Fuuka 4: Yuu gains 2 tickets to a movie that coincidentally, Fuuka really wants to watch. He invites her and they set a date on Sunday. The day of the meeting, they miss each other in a cliche way but with Fuuka's strange abilities; she finds Yuu. Also, Yuu gets a knee to the face just to make fun of him.

The chapter title gives a bit of a hint as to what this chapter is about. I was translating it by my Katakana/Hiragana self study (through translating manga) sheets and I was confused as to what it means. I've never heard of such a word. ka mi n gu a u to. KA-MINGU-AUTO. Coming out. WTF?! I was like whoa! This was totally what the translators wrote! Cool!

Bi-Monthly! Omaera Zenin Mendokusai 1: Tomodachi Jiyanakute, Sensei Desu

What will you do when one of your students doesn't have any friends? She suggests that you; her teacher, become her temporary friend only until she makes another friend. Will you agree? Ahhh, complicated relationships! Here's a new series offered to us by Tobi (pen name of the mangaka) and is serialized in Comic Meteor.







Omaera Zenin Mendokusai! translated means, Everyone is a Pain (that's the really idiotic translation, but for me it should mean like that and not "You guys are all troublesome" because that sounds wrong). 

The chapter title is: Tomodachi Janakute, Sensei Desu (友達 じゃなくて, 先生 です) translates to, "I'm not your friend! I'm your teacher!" I just want to show off my Japanese. Thanks Textfugu!

Weekly! Fuuka 4

When you have a sister working for an advertising company, you get some perks. When you're a new transfer student and still have no friends, who will you invite to watch a movie? You probably know how this story will end...

Previously on: Fuuka 3: We are introduced to Koyuki "Tama" Hinashi; Yuu's childhood friend and maybe his first love? (BTW, Tama-chan is a famous idol.) Yuu sees Fuuka crying and came to the conclusion that she got rejected by the upperclassman who recruited her to the Track Club. She clears it up with Yuu and he runs away like a wuss again. We get to see a connection finally building up.

Weekly! Fuuka 3

A possible third wheel comes to shake Yuu's life! This is a chapter that doesn't do much with the story but is an introduction for a character. This will be a quick one, I promise.

I just found this website that has these covers for Shonen Magazine so I'm going to get magazine covers there from now on. Hopefully they update them weekly.

Previously on: Fuuka 2: Yuu's sister give us fan-service! His first day on his new school became rough for him after he forgot his phone at home. After school, Fuuka grabbed him and said that she needed help buying something. They ended pretending to be a couple to purchase a CD that came with Fuuka's real target, cellphone straps. Later that day, a girl privately sent a message to Yuu's SNS (Social Networking Service) account.

Monthly! Amagi Brilliant Park 1

This is one of the new series I'm picking up and it's a monthly! The story is quite unique where it looks like it revolves around a theme park "Amagi Brilliant Park" (hence the title). The theme park was a built during the *bubble economy of Japan and it has been a mess after the burst. I'll get into more details but for now, all you need to know is that it's a theme park that looks run down. No "guests" and no people around to enjoy their time. What is going to happen?

From the colored splash page for this series, it says that they need to get a lot of people to go to that run down theme park. The time limit given is about 2 weeks so for someone in high school in his third semester, that's a lot of things on his plate (it's third semester, finals come rolling in).

Weekly! Fuuka 2

Who starts a chapter with fan-service? Seo Kouji. I don't mind the imouto/onee-san fan service but was that really necessary?! Anyway, Yuu's first day as a tenkoosei (transfer student) and Fuuka is his classmate. After school, Yuu is pulled away by Fuuka to get cellphone straps. The catch is, they can only buy the straps if the buyers are a couple. What a weirdo!

Previously on: Fuuka 1: Yuu Haruna--a teenage boy who loves to post on a certain SN (Social Network)-- encounters Fuuka Akitsuki after bumping into her in the middle of the street. They meet again after Yuu talks to a teacher about his transfer. Two times has he been caught looking like a pervert who secretly takes pictures of women and both times, his phones were thrown. Both become friendly with each other after Yuu tries to "save" Fuuka from what seems to be like rape--which turns out, is just a recruitment for the track team of the school. Weekly! Fuuka 1

Since I saw this after downloading a ton of weekly magazines, I decided to pick it up for a review. I love Seo Kouji's Suzuka (I have only read up to volume 3 since that's all I bought, but I have 5 now, including 4 and 6) and the story of it. I looked at his other works and what do you know? He wrote Kimi no Iru Machi, which just finished airing last year. I'm really looking for something that started this year to review so I have a ton of stuff to post while the real reviews are still incomplete. I know, I need to stop wasting time and get on with the regular reviews. Anyway, here you go! Summer Wind!

The title is FUU KA ( FUU = WIND [or KAZE] and  KA = SUMMER [or NATSU]) which is really hard to translate but thanks to the FURIGANA beside the Kanji, I can translate it (after 10 years) to FUUKA.

It's basically the same story as Kimi no Iru Machi and Suzuka where a boy comes from a different town and gets involved with some girl somehow. I'll let you in on more of the story if you come with me... I don't offer candy though so your expectations are broken!

Review: The Wallflower Volume 1

1 mansion, 4 bishounen, 1 girl, 1 goal to "free rent." Four gorgeous teenage boy are tasked to do the (almost) impossible, to turn Sunako Nakahara; a macabre-loving girl, into a proper lady. Tomoyo Hayakawa really made something funny and beautiful with this title! Here you go, The Wallflower Volume 1!


You have just read the whole plot of the story. It's funny and it's definitely shoujo (hmm, just google "Free! Iwatobi Swim Club" so you have an idea), but guys, don't be discourage, there is still something for you here. Maybe a lesson about not calling girls ugly? Come, come, don't be shy!

Review: Lament of the Lamb Volume 1

A vampire story with a love story at the side. You've got it wrong if you think this is about twilight. If vampires were real, Kei Toume's version would be the ones. Her art and story telling just give me the chills without it being a true horror manga. It's like one of those tragedy stories of the medieval times where suicide and murder are a means to convey extreme feelings. I present you, Lament of the Lamb.


"Mingled among the sheep, there is a wolf. And by his own lonely fangs, he is bent..."

The expressions of the characters on the front cover is what you will have after you read this. The sadness you get from reading something emotional, something dreary. You'll have to read it to understand what I'm talking about.

Manga in the Mail: 22

This is a record breaking package. Yep. I thought 17 was the biggest, until this hulking package came this morning. 28 volumes of random manga. Yeah! I know! 28 volumes! Awesome isn't it? I'm so happy to see this package!


I'm hoping I can go beyond this number of volumes in one package. That would probably be far into the future. List of all volumes are inside, so come on down!

Review: pink

It's not the color, it's the manga. It's really awful and bittersweet. It's like drinking coffee, it's really bitter but over time, cup after cup, you get really used to it but then you realize, your tastes have changed.


Warning! This title contains nudity, sex scenes and adult themes. 

Vertical Inc. said it perfectly, "Published at the zenith of the Bubble era, women's comics legend Kyoko Okazaki's representative work captures... the spirit of the times." It is the spirit of the times where people were spending lavishly and didn't care about the future. This is like seeing Japan back in the late 1980s.

Review: Toradora! Volume 1

Long awaited review? Really?! I can't believe you guys! Sorry for the wait though! Yeah, it's the manga adaptation of the light novels. Surprisingly, it's nearly the same as the anime adaptation!


Fun fact: The author thought about the title and tried putting the characters' personalities. Tiger and Dragon, the "tora" part is Japanese for tiger, the "dora" part is the shorthand for dragon in romaji (I know little about the Japanese language but I know that they have a "western" style syllabic system for "western" words.)

Manga in the Mail: 21

This is a 2013 release by Vertical. Have you guessed it? Okay, the mangaka's other work came out earlier than this one. Guessed it yet? No? Dammit! It's a color! That's it! No more guessing!


It's PINK! IT'S PINK! PINK! It's by Kyoko Okazaki who is a well known josei mangaka. I'm hoping it's funny with dark tones to enhance the "Oooh! It's controversial!" reading theme I'll have when I read this. (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

Manga in the Mail: 19

So here's 15 volumes of a shoujo series I ordered recently. I was inspired by the anime so I bought this lot for cheap and most of them are in very good condition. Awesome sauce! Here's the scary part: the cover art is full of bishounen! (bi [bee] comes from bijin meaning beautiful woman, so they combined it with shounen and we get beautiful boys!)
